When we mention jewels we are talking about precious stones and years and years of design and creation. These hidden treasures can be seen at the Bulgari expo, “Between eternity and history 1884-2009” to be held at the Palazzo delle esposizioni (194 Via Nazionale) from the 22^nd of May to the 13^th of September. The expo will highlight the founder of the legendary Bulgari name, Sotiro Bulgari and his connection to the city of Rome.

This year Bulgari celebrates its 125^th anniversary of its store opening in Rome. Bulgari is famous today for its colored stones, unique in the world. Its style mixes Greek influences with Italian flavor. The exposition will include approximately 400 pieces of jewelry, precious pieces and unique watches. Many of these pieces have never been seen by the public because they are the property of collectors while others are part of a vintage collection that is no longer available to the public. Photographs of famous people who have worn or own a piece of this outstanding jewelry and original designs and details of the creation of these jewels will all be yours to admire.

The last 3^rd of April, the Euro exhibition has been inaugurated in Rome. After Bratislava and Barcelona this fantastic appointment came into the Italian capital.

Lorenzo Bini Smaghi, member of the executive board of the ECB Rome, has given the first speech to introduce the event, on whiche he explained that  the main objective of the Euro Exhibition is to give a wide public the opportunity to have an overview of the euro coins and banknotes and to increase the knowledge of their characteristics.

So, you are invited in the premises of Banca D’Italia to use all the elements which will contribute to make your visit an interesting, learning and unique experience at the same time.

However, there you can find on display genuine banknotes and interactive touch screens; and if you decide to go with your kids, don’t worry: a wonderful children’s corner is ready to welcome the little people. They will have fun with exciting games, life-size heroes figures of the “Anna and Alex take on the banknotes forgers” booklets.

Banca D’Italia, with this Exhibition, intends to celebrate the10^th anniversary of the introduction of the Euro in the main Italian bank. Consequently, the event will be free; you have no excuses to miss this interesting event.

Unique and very valuable works can be admired on a new exhibition in Rome, Giotto e il Trecento (Giotto and the fourteenth century), a chance to have an interesting approach to the middle ages art. The huge exhibition at the Complesso del Vittoriano displays 150 masterpieces from museums around the world.

Giotto was the first Italian artist to overcome the tendencies of Byzantine painting of his time by exploring what eventually would lead to the great artistic revolution of the Renaissance. Profoundly innovative, the art of this great master was not indifferent to their peers, and in his time enjoyed great fame.

Among the great works on display there are masterpieces of great painters of the   fourteenth century as Cimabue, Pietro Lorenzetti, Simone Martini, Giovanni Pisano, Arnolfo di Cambio, Tino di Camaino and others, as well as jewelry, wooden sculptures and illuminated manuscripts. This represents the classic and gothic influences that shaped a new taste in art and renovated the canons of expression and will be presented in different sections.

Well known all over the world, Leonardo Da Vinci is one of the major examples of Italian genius: polyvalent  and enigmatic, his talents spanned from painting ( everybody knows the Gioconda and the  Last Supper), to beautiful sculptures and ingenious war inventions.

In particular I’m writing this post just to talk about the relation between Leonardo and the music.

In fact the artist really loved the music and he even composed some aria. Besides, he was a passionate player of the, literally “ arm lyre” (lira da braccio) and he even draw a model of this instrument.

Actually the  Organ Viola, the one that Leonardo draw has been built by the “Association de Recherche Culturelle L. De Vinci” from Sion (CH)

It’s fascinating to learn, regarding Leonardo’s love for music, that according to scholars Gian Mario Pala and Loredana Mazzarella, inside the Leonardo’s Last Supper there is a hidden a musical composition which has been synthesized digitally. Of course a new book on the subject is coming….

  Now in Rome will take place on June the 12th 2009, Leonardo da Vinci e la Musica, a conference about this specific aspect of the artist’s life. There will be on display, too, the organ viola that Leonardo designed. The conference is part of a bigger project intended to draw an itinerary about the history of music between XVII and XX century and will be held at the National Museum of Musical Instruments, on the square of Santa Croce in Gerusalemme (Holy Cross in Jerusalem), near the subway station San Giovanni.

The entrance it’s for free but it’s necessary to book in advance.

From February, Rome is the stage of dance festivals: Festival Equilibrio and Festival Fuga.Two events with one aim: to spread the word about this magical form of art.

Festival Equilibrio is pointing at the exhibition of outstanding newly come dancers from all over the world like Spain, Portugal, Austria, France, Hungary, China. Impressive is the variety of expression between the choreographies: from the pure abstract and spiritual dance of the Chinese Shen Wei to the fusion between theatre and dance created by the Arab-Israeli duo Guy & Roni.

From a selection of ten dancers, the winner will be chosen on the evenings of February 20^th and 21^st where even the audience is invited to take part.

The Accademia Nazionale di Danza, the school founded in Rome by Jia Ruskaia in 1948 to train dance teachers, is proposing March 21st-28th and April 4^th the “Crashing Test”: young choreographers and musicians will test the taste (harsh play on words) of the spectators, craving for applauses on stage.

On the other hand, the Piccolo Festival di Fuga proposes a more articulated program. Besides live exhibitions, specialized books will be presented along with interviews with the most interesting names of the dance scene.

 The Auditorium Parco della Musica of Rome, the venue where the Festival Equilibrium will take place is located on Viale Pietro de Coubertin, near the Palazzetto dello Sport, off Viale Tiziano.

Inside Italy: Every Region of Italy will present its religious and cultural gifts. The whole pavilion was designed to resemble a Medieval square. An interactive display of Italy will be placed at the centre of the ‘’Piazza’’. Here the most complete information about art, monuments and sites in the Country is offered.

Youth at Josp Fest: Dedicated to students focused on training and career guidance.

This important meeting provides the opportunity for pilgrims and tourists to revisit places of worship in search of the origins of the Holy land through a journey of magnificent art work, nature and man. Food, art and design were the ingredients of Gustovagando, a tasteful event which took place at Macro Future from December 27th 2008 till January 6th 2009. Christmas was still in the air and the cheerful and cosy atmosphere of this festivity was re-created through an imaginary apartment including a kitchen, a dining-room and a living room. 

Every day one region of central Italy was welcomed as a guest to present their traditional culinary delights. It was a great chance for producers, who actively took part in the exhibition, to promote their products through seminaries and tasting.

Food lessons were organised during the afternoon, where high level chefs proposed the main Christmas dishes. Thinking of a place to stay in Rome? Try Lucci Hotel, it’s smack bang in the centre!

The exhibition Etruscans describes the story of the Etruscan civilization in Lazio through the extraordinary development of its main urban centers: Veio, Cerveteri, Vulci and Tarquinia, four cities that began life with many of their more ancient features stemming from common roots.

The individual character of these four cities in southern Etruria is illustrated by a selection of some of the most important works of art from each locality, many of which are on public display for the very first time.

The second part of the exhibition is dedicated to the relationship between these ancient cities and Rome itself, which highlights the huge influence that the Etruscan civilization had on the Roman world. Another important museum about Etruscans to advise is  Etruscan Museum of Villa Giulia.

Veio is famous for the production of “terracotta” intended to decorate the roofs of buildings and achieve votive sculptures.

Cerveteri is characterized mainly by the extraordinary funerary architecture connected to the famous necropolis.

Vulci is the monumental sculpture in stone.

Caere (Cerveteri) and Vulci, from the end of the eighth century BC, were the main destinations for large trade flows which from the greek world markets reached different centers in Etruria.

Tarquinia, with its several hundred tombs painted between the archaic and Hellenistic age, is the most important art gallery of the ancient world before Pompeii.
